Singing in the Rain

Our friends and neighbors have been so wonderful about making sure we stay busy, distracted, and FED while Carey is gone. We are so grateful. We went to the pool yesterday with our next door neighbors and they helped wrangle Sawyer while I dealt with Oscar. That way everyone got to win. Our neighbors Casey and her kids Scarlett and Auggie invited us to go to the Zoo with them this morning. We both have memberships and are 10 minutes away so it's an easy trip. With a 20% chance of rain, we figured it was worth the risk. Turns out we had several downpours. The kids still had a great time and there was lots of splashing and stomping in the water. Good thing we wore crocs instead of sneakers! Both Sawyer and Oscar are sleeping peacefully and I've gotten all the ingredients chopped and prepped for dinner tonight. I'm going to try to get some computer stuff done before they wake up and our plan is to snuggle and play the rest of this rainy afternoon. It's been a great weekend.

Back in the Saddle, Again

So I gave up on this blog thing long ago. I wasn't even sure that blogger still existed or that i'd find this page when putting in the web address. But here we are. A new friend in Atlanta has been posting daily on a family blog. I've enjoyed reading it and then read an article about how even just a few minutes of journaling a day can help lower stress. When I came to this page, I read things about our life 3 years ago that I didn't remember in the fuzzy haze of parenting, new jobs, interstate moves, and a second child. So I would like to start this again, not as a way to share our life with family far away, but as a way to help document this place and time. I still think that songs as post titles will be fun so I'm going to keep with that.

Friends are Family

We had a wonderful visit in Charlotte. It went by way too fast as usual but was lots of fun. We walked on the greenway close to Derrell and Lindsay's (rental) house, went to see their new house that they are buying, had a cookout with the Clark family, had brunch with our friends Steve and Darcy and their baby, Chloe, and Sawyer got to go see Derrell's work truck. Pictures below!

Free and Easy Down the Road I Go

Yesterday, we drove to Charlotte. Since we've moved to Atlanta we've gone back to Charlotte for three of the last four Fourth of July holidays. Carey was supposed to come with us this time, but he got a subpoena for the 5th and wasn't able to make it. Admittedly, I was incredibly nervous about making a 250 miles drive with Sawyer and Oscar by myself. But, it turned out actually to be a really easy trip. Yes, it took almost 5 hours instead of 4. Since I'd fed Oscar right before we left and he'd been up and playing for an hour and a half, he fell asleep before we'd even made it to the highway. I brought our portable DVD player and let Sawyer watch a movie for the first half of the trip. He was quiet, Oscar was sleeping, and I got to talk to my friend Jarrod for an hour and a half. He lives in San Diego and was able to spend the early morning drinking coffee and chatting with me while I drove. Shockingly, we didn't encounter any traffic so I drove until we hi…
