Back to Life, Back to Reality

Wow. 7 months is a long time. It's been 7 months since I've posted and Sawyer was 7 months old when I did. The 14 month old that currently resides in our home and hearts is a totally different being now. As are we. I've been absent from documenting his world for several reasons:

  • Carey came home from his training in late August and there's been some adjustment in schedules and coordination
  • I entered the thesis phase of my Master's program and thus fell down a rabbit hole. The only reason I picked up my computer was for research or writing.
  • I completed and defended my thesis which meant that I didn't touch my computer for almost six weeks.
  • We were traveling 7 out of the 8 weekends around Thanksgiving and Christmas.
  • Sawyer went through a series of really tough colds (including a 4 day fever over 103).
  • I recognized that I was suffering from postpartum depression (and had been for some time).
We are starting to recover from all of these things and I am looking forward to getting back to sharing and documenting the world we're living in.

Keep an eye for some catch up posts to see pictures I've been taking all along (but just never managed to post).

All (S)He Wants to Do is Dance

Sawyer has shown an interest in music and dancing and gets really excited when one or the other is happening. Our friend Derrell (after whom Sawyer is named) was over the other night and they were dancing on the changing table. I only caught the tail end on video but the way he's laughing at the beginning of the video was the way he was squealing for a good 5 minutes. It was so cute to watch.

In the Army now

When Carey graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC, Sawyer and I drop down to see him. We were able to spend the day before graduation on post with him and then we stayed in a hotel that night and went back for graduation the next day. I didn't get too many pictures as we were trying to soak up as much time with Carey as possible. However a kind couple next to me held Sawyer while I got some pictures of the opening ceremony. FAMILY DAY The soldiers were hiding out in the forest on the far side and all of the sudden there were several loud booms and smoke and they all came running over through the smoke. After the opening ceremony they were released to the families. We spent the day seeing the base and spending time with Sawyer.  Sawyer getting some wiggle time while we ate a picnic lunch Crashed out in the hotel room after a long day. He slept through my entire morning routine GRADUATION DAY All d

Hold Me Now

Seems like I am always behind these days.  I think I am going to have to start posting these in the mornings. I thought that I would be able to do it in the evenings after Sawyer went to bed. That has been when I am getting the most things done. However, it appears that the evenings are going to be Oscar's worst times. He's tired but won't sleep and just wants to be held. I end up breaking out the pacifier or my finger to keep him calm. So then not much is getting done. I'm going to catch up on a few days today and hopefully start being a little more regular. This week was insane. We closed on the refinance of our house on Tuesday. The developer we bought from said that the lot behind us was unbuildable. Now that there is a new developer in the neighborhood, they have a product that they want to fit on it. Since we have trees behind us on our lot that aren't in the fence, we want to get them in the fence and do some grading to make the space really usable. Wedne
