In the Army now

When Carey graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC, Sawyer and I drop down to see him. We were able to spend the day before graduation on post with him and then we stayed in a hotel that night and went back for graduation the next day. I didn't get too many pictures as we were trying to soak up as much time with Carey as possible. However a kind couple next to me held Sawyer while I got some pictures of the opening ceremony.

FAMILY DAY

The soldiers were hiding out in the forest on the far side and all of the sudden there were several loud booms and smoke and they all came running over through the smoke.

After the opening ceremony they were released to the families. We spent the day seeing the base and spending time with Sawyer.

Crashed out in the hotel room after a long day. He slept through my entire morning routine

GRADUATION DAY
All dressed up for the graduation ceremony

We went to graduation and Derrell (Sawyer's namesake) met us there. He took over the photos while I fed Sawyer and held him. Carey received Soldier of the Cycle for his platoon which is a pretty big honor. We couldn't figure out why we didn't see him with his company until we saw the group that was separate.

  1. I'm so happy for all of you! Yay for getting through Phase 1, and congrats to Carey on the Soldier of the Cycle, and you, my friend, look AMAZING and so easy-breezy super Mom/wife!

Also every time I see you I am reminded how much I want your hair. I promise that's not creepy. But seriously, it's gorgeous.

All (S)He Wants to Do is Dance

Sawyer has shown an interest in music and dancing and gets really excited when one or the other is happening. Our friend Derrell (after whom Sawyer is named) was over the other night and they were dancing on the changing table. I only caught the tail end on video but the way he's laughing at the beginning of the video was the way he was squealing for a good 5 minutes. It was so cute to watch.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

SNOW DAY! We had a cold snowy day two weeks ago. It was cold and rainy with flurries intermixed all day long. We snuggled on the couch and watched movies and I studied for a midterm but by late afternoon the snow was coming down a lot! We got an inch or so in less than 30 minutes. By the time we got our act together it was too dark for outside pictures but as soon as everyone was up Sunday morning we got dressed and went outside to document Sawyer's first snow day. This bear outfit was a hand-me-down from our friends the W's. Their son was born in June so he never wore it. Sawyer looked precious bundled up in it for our pictures.  He didn't much like being outside. It was COLD and BRIGHT! Hopefully that trend won't continue. We want him to love the outdoors as much as we do!

Let the Circle Be Unbroken

This is Megan.  15 years ago, in August of 1998, I started babysitting for her family. She was about 6 months old. A few weeks ago, Megan, now 15, along with her older sister Ashley, kept Sawyer (almost 6 months old) while I took a training class at UGA. It baffles me and warms my heart that this beautiful baby girl grew up to be a beautiful young woman who is now feeling the same thing about my baby boy that I did about her when I was 15. I feel as though I am a part of their family and the girls have been involved in every major event in my life. When Carey and I got engaged, their mom Lisa was the third person I called (after my mom and sister). We have celebrated weddings (mine), graduations ( me from high school and college, Kaitlyn from high school, and Ashley from high school), dance performances, count less game nights,  deaths, and new life. They drove up to see me when Sawyer was 2 weeks old and helped me navigate the early fuzzy days of motherhood. I am so t...
